We were pleased to host another sold-out event, so thank you to all 32 teams for taking part. We had teams from Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley and across Metro Vancouver who represented eight different clubs and 11 of the VCC's 20 leagues. The competition was exciting throughout the day and the event winners and runners-up are listed below (and a copy of the full results can be downloaded here).

Many thanks to this year's Doubles Bonspiel chair - Siobhan Holladay - and the supporting team of Kathy McInnes, Scott Allen and Brad Blackwell for their work done before and during the event. Additional kudos to our day-of volunteers - Heather Kisbee, Kathryn Willey and Keltie Worrall - and the Club's ice and lounge staff for helping host a great event.

Congratulations to Jan Bos and Team Wakefield

VCC member and past president, Jan Bos, competed this past week at the 2013 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men's Provincial Championship. Playing third for Team Brower (out of the Peace Arch Curling Club), Jan's team finished the event with a 1-3 record and tied for 10th place.

Meanwhile, Team Wakefield - VCC practice members - battled their way to the C final. They lost a one point decision to finish tied for 5th and come with oh so close to the playoffs and the chance to earn a berth to the Brier.

The 2013 BC Men's Championships continues over the weekend. Follow live results at playdowns.com and read current event news on the championship website.

Team Birston/Hall Finishes Tied for 5th at Provincials

Congratulations to Team Birston/Hall (Shelley Birston and George Hall) for finishing tied for 5th place at Curl BC's inaugural Mixed Doubles Provincial Championships held on February 1-3.

Shelley and George played five 8-end games of Mixed Doubles in just over a 24-hour period from Friday evening to Saturday evening. They finished the round-robin portion tied for second in their pool with a record of 2-1 and had to play a tie-breaker. After winning the tie-breaker, they lost their quarter-final game by one point on a measure (to the eventual winners).

George Hall and Shelley Birston

For those VCC members and friends of Team Birston/Hall who went over to the North Shore Winter Club to watch the live action, they saw Shelley and George master the comeback during their run. All of their wins featured deficits of six or seven points that were overcome during the game, with the winning points scored in either the eighth or extra end.
