After ten years of discussions, planning, construction and transition, the Vancouver Curling Club opens the doors to its new facility at Hillcrest Centre this weekend.
For the first time since the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, stones will once again be gliding across the ice in the building that saw Canada win three curling medals (two gold, one silver) at those Games.
After years of planning, we are now just weeks away from curling in our new facility! It’s going to be a very busy time over the next eight weeks as we complete the move, and get ready to start the 2011-2012 season.
We will have open houses, clinics and plenty of opportunities to have members experience the new facility before we officially start the inaugural season in our new facility on September 25.
Some of the key dates to be aware of are as follows:
The VCC Board of Directors is pleased to announce the Club’s first Manager of Membership Services.
As part of the management team, Brad Blackwell will be the key point of contact for Club members. He will also oversee the Last Draw Lounge and pro shop operations.
Brad comes to the VCC with ample food service and curling experience. His most recent position was as a senior sous chef and acting chef at Milestones where he was involved in hiring and the development of new back-of-house employees, scheduling and managing the back-of-house team on a day-to-day basis.
As the summer is now upon us, we wanted to let everyone know that both staff and the Board of Directors are working hard to prepare for the move to our new home. We will be moving from our current club to the new facility in late July / early August, and we are aiming to have as smooth a transition as possible in our first curling season in the Hillcrest Olympic / Paralympic Centre this fall.
