The first-ever bonspiel in the new home of the Vancouver Curling Club wrapped up on Sunday, November 6 with Team Apex Pest Control (on the right) claiming the champions’ title for the 2011 Harvest Bonspiel.
A fun weekend was had by all participants and spectators both on and off the ice.
Members young and old, faces of the Club’s past and present were on hand this past Saturday afternoon for a very special ceremony. Leo Hebert was presented with the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a curler in the province of British Columbia, a lifetime membership from Curl BC.
|Pictured to the right (accompanied by the Brier trophy), Leo was presented the honour by Jim Mann, the Chair of Curl BC’s Board of Directors and a long-time friend of Leo. Jim spoke about the wide-ranging impact that Leo has had on the sport of curling, the province of BC, the city of Vancouver and the Vancouver Curling Club. From his seven provincial championships that span across the decades and his national and world championship honours from 1964 to the establishment of blind curling in this province and coaching done at all levels, Leo is truly deserving of this special acknowledgement.|
