Welcome to the home page for the Junior Development Program!
The Junior Program is the place for our younger curlers to learn the game, develop curling skills, and simply have a lot of fun. Please contact the Club's Manager of Membership Services, Brad Blackwell if you have any questions.
** SPECIAL UPDATE**
The Dates have been finalized for the Junior Development Program. See attachment below for updated dates for the 2012-13 season
The primary goal of this program is to instill in our younger players the interest and desire to learn the game of curling in a fun and challenging environment.
To do this, we will focus on skill development such as The Delivery, Sweeping Technique, The Turns (in turn, out turn), Line of Delivery, Weight Judging (sweepers), How to Call a Game, Strategy, Terms of the Game, Communication and Teamwork. Most sessions will be on the ice. Some sessions, like Strategy, will be off ice and will then go on ice for a game.
The 2012-2013 Junior Development Program begins September 29. The calendar for the Program is posted at the bottom of the page.
What to Wear?
Please wear sweatpants or loose fitting pants that won’t restrict your movement on the ice. It can be cold, so wear layers and bring a toque, gloves or mittens.
For footwear, please wear runners with a rubberlike sole (not plastic), and make sure the bottoms are clean and free of all dirt and stones. If possible, dedicate a pair of runners for curling use only. Wear your street shoes to the club, then change into your curling shoes.
The VCC's Junior Development Program will be run by a number of certified coaches and assistants. They all look forward to a fun year filled with laughter and skill improvement throughout the entire season.
