A message from VCC Club President, Jan Bos...
Today marks our first day back from the league hiatus, and we are looking forward to another month and a half of curling at the Vancouver Curling Club.
I wanted to take this opportunity to provide the membership with an update on: * the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, * our Team Canada Raffle, and * a difficult decision recently made by the board regarding the Barry Naimark Charity Skins Bonspiel.
OLYMPIC GAMES The past month was an incredibly busy one at the club as we welcomed visitors from across the world during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. To those members and board members who gave their time and efforts as volunteers and worked alongside our staff, we are especially grateful. Everyone's efforts contributed to a successful month, and at the end of the season, we will be able to announce the additional funds (the net profits from February) that we can contribute to our Capital Development Fund to help us move into our new facility.
TEAM CANADA RAFFLE Fund-raising for the Capital Development Fund continues throughout the month of March. We have our unique Team Canada Raffle where you can win a chance for a one hour curling lesson with a member from either Team Martin or Team Bernard (as well as many more fabulous prizes). Complete details are available in the club and by clicking here, so be sure to purchase your tickets for a chance to win and to support the club at the same time.
PARALYMPIC GAMES The end of the Olympic Games means that the Paralympic Games are just around the corner. The Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games run from March 12th to 21st, with the Vancouver Olympic / Paralympic Centre playing host to wheelchair curling. Until March 11th, all members can access the club and use the parking lot as normal. During the Paralympic Games, though, we are waiting for the final plans from VANOC. There have been many changes of plans from VANOC and the city over the past couple of months so as soon as we have the final details from VANOC regarding club and parking lot access, we will communicate that to the entire membership.
BARRY NAIMARK CHARITY SKINS On Tuesday evening, the board of directors made the difficult decision, after lengthy deliberation, to cancel this year's Barry Naimark Charity Skins. Current lack of interest in this year's event, as well as a change of date in a neighbouring club's spiel which now conflicts with our event, contributed strongly in this decision. The impact of the Vancouver 2010 Games, both on the club's schedule and the schedules of our members, may also be a factor in the limited interest received so far. In an End-Of-Season Survey, we will canvas the membership on a variety of matters including the future of bonspiels here at the VCC . Sincerely, Jan Bos President, Vancouver Curling Club
